The Uganda Law Society has defended city lawyer Caleb Alaka following public criticism over his role in representing Speaker of Parliament Annet Anita Among in ongoing corruption-related investigations.
The body says lawyers must be allowed to carry out their professional duties without intimidation or fear.
Law Society Stands Firm on Legal Representation
In a statement issued by Vice President Asiimwe Anthony, the Uganda Law Society condemned what it described as intimidatory and extrajudicial remarks targeting advocates involved in politically sensitive cases.

It emphasized that the Constitution guarantees every person the right to legal representation.
The society added that no lawyer should be threatened or harassed for performing their professional duties.

The statement follows controversy sparked by remarks allegedly linked to Chief of Defense Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
He is reported to have warned that lawyers representing individuals under corruption investigations could face consequences.
The comments have triggered debate across legal and political circles about the limits of public commentary during active investigations.
The Uganda Law Society warned that such rhetoric risks undermining public confidence in the justice system and could discourage lawyers from handling sensitive cases.
It further stressed that concerns about professional conduct should be addressed through formal disciplinary procedures rather than public pressure or social media statements.
The Uganda People’s Defence Forces has not yet issued an official response regarding the alleged remarks.
