A Gateway Bus Company vehicle was involved in a minor road crash along the Mbarara–Kabale Highway in Kabale District on Saturday, June 6, 2026, in the early hours of the morning.
According to police, the crash occurred at Kabaraga at around 2:00 a.m. and involved bus registration number UBE 977S. Traffic officers from Kabale Central Police Station quickly responded and secured the scene.
Preliminary investigations suggest that reckless driving may have caused the accident. Authorities have launched further investigations to establish the exact cause.

Kigezi Sub-region police spokesperson Nelson Tumushime urged drivers, especially those operating passenger service vehicles, to prioritize road safety and ensure they are fit to drive before starting long journeys.
“We encourage our bus drivers to be mindful of passengers’ lives. They should rest properly to avoid fatigue and must not drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol,” Tumushime said.
Police confirmed that no major injuries were reported. They used the incident to remind motorists about speeding, fatigue, and impaired driving, which remain leading causes of road accidents in Uganda.

Road safety experts continue to call for stricter adherence to traffic regulations, especially among long-distance bus operators who transport hundreds of passengers daily across Uganda.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
