KAMPALA — Jacob Oboth-Oboth has distanced himself from reports linking him to endorsements in the race for Speaker of Uganda’s 12th Parliament, saying he is not aware of any official backing.
His remarks followed public statements by Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who openly praised Oboth-Oboth and appeared to endorse him for the Speakership position ahead of the new Parliament.
Muhoozi, the Chief of Defense Forces, described Oboth-Oboth as one of the government’s best-performing ministers and suggested he would be suitable for the top parliamentary office.
However, responding to the growing political debate, Oboth-Oboth reportedly said he was not aware of any endorsement concerning the Speakership race.

The development comes amid increasing speculation over who could lead the 12th Parliament following the swearing-in of newly elected Members of Parliament this week.
Political discussions within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) have intensified in recent days as different names continue to emerge for both speaker and deputy speaker positions.

Observers say Muhoozi’s comments have further fueled debate within political circles, especially as attention shifts toward the organization of Parliament and the election of its leadership in the coming days.
