Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has confirmed that he will miss out on England’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, ahead of the official announcement expected on Friday, May 22.
The experienced centre-back revealed the news on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, saying he had already been informed that he was left out of Thomas Tuchel’s plans for the tournament.

Squad Announcement Looms
The update comes just hours before England head coach Thomas Tuchel is expected to reveal his final squad for the upcoming World Cup.
Maguire’s absence has already sparked debate among fans, with many questioning the decision to leave out one of England’s most experienced defenders.
Harry Maguire has made 66 appearances for England since his senior debut in 2017 and has represented the Three Lions at major tournaments including the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the 2022 World Cup and Euro 2020.
The 33-year-old defender was also ruled out of Euro 2024 due to injury before making his return to the national team setup earlier this year under England head coach Thomas Tuchel.
His inclusion in the March squad had sparked hopes of a possible return to England’s World Cup plans after featuring in matches against Uruguay and Japan. Those games marked his first appearances for the national team since September 2024, during Lee Carsley’s time in interim charge.
Despite featuring regularly for Manchester United and making 24 appearances this season, the former Leicester City defender now looks set to miss out on the 2026 FIFA World Cup squad.
