Richard Magezi Buyende, the former LC1 Chairperson of Bugezya Cell in Buyende District, has died days after losing the village leadership seat he held for four consecutive terms.
Magezi served as the LC1 Chairperson of Bugezya Cell in Itamya Ward, Kidera Town Council. According to family members and residents, he later developed health complications after the recent village elections.
His widow, Annette Nankya, said Magezi struggled emotionally after losing the seat before his health later deteriorated.

Nankya said Magezi died on Friday, July 31, 2026, while being rushed to Kidera Health Centre IV for treatment.
“After losing the seat he had held for four consecutive terms, he became very stressed. While our children were taking him to the health centre, he lost consciousness and stopped breathing before they arrived,” Nankya said.
Residents said Magezi was disappointed by the election outcome, with some linking his declining health to the stress that followed the loss.
Julius Kivumbi, a voter in Bugezya Cell, said Magezi felt disappointed after losing the leadership role he had held for many years.
Residents said Magezi relied partly on his leadership role, including witnessing land agreements, as a source of income.
They said he later became worried about his future after losing the seat.
Magezi lost the LC1 election to Isaac Kalyango, who received 87 votes. Magezi got 30 votes.
Magezi was also the brother of former Budiope West MP Ibrahim Kyoto Muruli.
He will be buried at his ancestral home in Bugezya Cell, Kidera Town Council, Buyende District.
The incident has sparked discussions among residents about the emotional challenges leaders may face after losing long-held positions.
