The lack of public appearances led to widespread concern among Ugandans, with many waiting for updates about her condition.

President Museveni Gives Health Update

President Yoweri Museveni provided the first major public update about his wife’s health on June 24, 2026, while celebrating her 78th birthday.

He said Janet Museveni had faced a serious medical challenge but was recovering with the help of doctors and through prayer

“Three months ago, on the 21st of March, 2026, launched an attack on the life of Maama. However, it miscalculated,” Museveni said.

He added that God, through medical professionals, helped save her life and that she was recovering well.

The First Lady has not publicly revealed details about the illness that forced her to step away from official duties.
