Two street children were burned to death while another sustained serious injuries after a suspected mob justice attack in Soroti City, prompting police to launch investigations into the disturbing incident.
The attack reportedly occurred at around 2:00 a.m. on Monday, August 3, 2026, along Town Talks Street in Soroti Central Ward, Soroti East Division.
Three Street Children Allegedly Targeted
According to preliminary police findings, three street children were allegedly attacked by a mob after being suspected of theft.
During the assault, two of the victims were brutally beaten before being set on fire, killing them on the spot.
A third victim was rescued by police officers who responded to the scene and was rushed to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
Police confirmed that the bodies of the deceased were taken to the Soroti City Mortuary for postmortem examinations as detectives investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Authorities are also working to identify the individuals involved in the deadly attack.
Police Condemn Mob Justice
The Uganda Police Force strongly condemned the incident, reminding the public that taking the law into their own hands is illegal and undermines the justice system.
Police emphasized that every suspect has the constitutional right to a fair hearing and urged members of the public to report suspected criminals to law enforcement officers instead of resorting to violence.
Appeal to the Public
Investigators have appealed to anyone with information that could help identify those responsible to report to the nearest police station or contact Soroti Central Police Station.
