The biggest football match on the planet will have a Slovenian official at the centre of it after Slavko Vincic was appointed referee for the 2026 FIFA World Cup final between Spain and Argentina at MetLife Stadium.
The 46-year-old referee will take charge of Sunday’s historic final as Spain and Argentina battle for global football supremacy.
Vincic has already handled three matches at this World Cup, including Brazil’s group-stage clash with Morocco, Jordan’s meeting with Algeria, and the round of 32 encounter between Mexico and Ecuador.
Slavko Vincic’s World Cup Experience
This will not be Vincic’s first appearance on football’s biggest stage. During the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, he officiated Argentina’s opening match against Saudi Arabia, where the eventual champions suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat.
He also took charge of the group-stage game between Wales and Iran.
Spain’s Impressive Record Under Vincic
Spain will enter the final with confidence knowing they have never lost a match officiated by Vincic.
The Spanish national team has recorded positive results in five games under his supervision, including their famous 2-1 victory over France at Euro 2024.
Vincic also refereed the 2024 UEFA Champions League final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, which ended with Real Madrid lifting the trophy after a 2-0 victory.
Assistants Named for World Cup Final
Vincic will be supported by fellow Slovenian officials Tomaz Klancnik and Andraz Kovacic.
Jordanian referee Adham Makhadmeh has been appointed as the fourth official for the final.
As Spain and Argentina prepare for one of football’s biggest nights, all eyes will be on Slavko Vincic to deliver a fair and memorable final.
