The Ministry of Health has reported a cautiously positive development in the ongoing Ebola response, as the number of recoveries continues to surpass newly confirmed infections.

In its latest update released on Friday, June 5, 2026, the Ministry of Health confirmed that four patients have fully recovered and been discharged from treatment facilities.

However, three new Ebola cases were also registered, pushing the cumulative number of confirmed infections to 19 since the outbreak was first declared in Uganda.

According to the Ministry, the newly confirmed patients were all contacts of previously identified cases and had already been placed under institutional quarantine as part of ongoing containment measures.

Despite the encouraging recovery trend, the outbreak has recorded another fatality. A Congolese national succumbed to the disease, bringing the total number of deaths to two, both involving foreign nationals.

Health officials further confirmed that 13 patients remain under medical care and close monitoring in isolation units across the country.

Contact tracing efforts remain active, with 668 individuals currently under surveillance as of Tuesday, June 2, 2026, to help prevent further spread of the virus.

Ebola Symptoms and Monitoring Guidelines

The Ministry reminded the public that Ebola’s incubation period ranges from 2 to 21 days, meaning infected individuals may not show symptoms immediately after exposure.

Early symptoms include fever, fatigue, muscle pain, headache, and sore throat. These may progress to vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, rash, and complications affecting the liver and kidneys.

In severe cases, the disease may also affect the nervous system, leading to confusion, irritability, or behavioural changes.
