Kampala, Uganda – Police in Kampala have arrested Kuteeka Hassan, 38, following a bag-snatching incident in which the suspect was found impersonating a police officer.
Kuteeka, a resident of Musibula Zone, Rubaga Division, allegedly stole a handbag from a 17-year-old girl. During his arrest, officers recovered a fraudulent police identification card (No. CID 006) bearing his name and the logo of the Criminal Investigations Department.
Kawala Rachael, spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, said the arrest came after the victim spotted the suspect’s vehicle, a Toyota Golf with registration UAQ 950P, which had been involved in a similar bag-snatching incident in January 2026 near Nateete traffic lights.

“Acting on the tip-off around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, officers moved quickly to apprehend the suspect. A search revealed the fake ID, confirming he was impersonating a police officer,” Kawala noted.
