Veteran Kadongo Kamu singer Fred Sebatta has expressed disappointment with Eddy Kenzo following his recent comments about older musicians and their financial status.
During a recent musicians’ meeting, Kenzo, who is also the president of the Uganda National Musicians Federation, praised the current generation of artists for their hard work and financial success. However, his remarks appeared to undermine veteran Kadongo Kamu artists, suggesting that many of them spent much of their time on women instead of building wealth. He referenced musicians such as Paul Kafero.
The comments sparked anger among several Kadongo Kamu singers. Fred Sebale, among others, criticized Kenzo’s statements. Sebale questioned Kenzo’s claims of wealth, asking why he had not fulfilled a promise to give a car to Fred Sebatta if he is indeed financially successful.

In response, Kenzo told Uncovered Ug reporters that many homes across the country today are owned by the current generation of musicians rather than older artists like Sebatta, Kafero, Gerald Kiweewa and Bassudde.

However, Sebatta defended his generation, explaining that the music industry during their time was far more challenging. He noted that there were very few studios, limited radio stations, and almost no streaming platforms, making it difficult to earn and grow financially.
He added that instead of criticism, veteran musicians deserve respect for paving the way for today’s artists.
Kenzo has yet to respond further to the criticism.
