Ministry explains the eviction

Officials from the Ministry of Works and Transport said several notices had been issued earlier.

However, many operators reportedly did not comply.

The ministry said the crackdown is part of efforts to clear illegal activities along the Nakawa–Kireka–Banda stretch.

It is also linked to preparations for the Kampala–Jinja Expressway project.

Purpose of the operation

Authorities said the eviction is meant to improve road safety.

It will also help protect pedestrian walkways and drainage systems.

The move is part of government efforts to restore the road reserve.

Car Dealers React

Some affected car dealers expressed frustration over the operation.

However, several said they are willing to leave the area if the process is fair.

They called for equal treatment during enforcement.

Public Reactions

The operation has sparked debate among members of the public.

Some supported government efforts to remove illegal structures.

Others questioned how the eviction was carried out.
