KAMPALA, August 27, 2026 — The Omuhikirwa (Prime Minister) of Obukama bwa Tooro, Calvin Armstrong Romwiire Akiiki, has dismissed reports that the Omukama of Tooro, His Majesty Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV, has died, clarifying that the King is alive but in critical condition.
Romwiire said the reports are false, clarifying that King Oyo is still alive but currently in a critical condition.
In a message to the people of Tooro and the King’s friends and well-wishers, the Prime Minister called for prayers and support for the Omukama during this difficult time.
The statement comes amid growing concern over the health of the Tooro monarch, with reports of his alleged death spreading among members of the public and on social media. The Prime Minister’s clarification seeks to put those reports to rest while urging the public to await verified information.
He urged people in Tooro, Uganda and across the world to keep King Oyo in their thoughts and prayers as he continues to receive care.
