Uganda’s media and entertainment industry has been thrown into mourning after Next Media Services entertainment presenter Brian “Makona” Ssemanda was seriously injured in a road accident that claimed the life of his colleague, identified as Badru.
The crash happened on Friday morning, leaving Makona with serious injuries before he was rushed to Kisubi Hospital, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for specialized treatment.
Colleague Dies at the Scene
According to early reports, Badru, who worked alongside Makona, died at the scene of the accident. Authorities had not yet released further details about the victim or the exact circumstances surrounding the crash by the time this story was published.
The exact location of the accident and what caused it also remained unknown, as neither the Uganda Police Force nor Next Media Services had issued an official statement.
News of the accident quickly spread across social media, prompting an outpouring of prayers and messages of support from journalists, fans and members of Uganda’s entertainment industry.
Many expressed hope for Makona’s recovery while mourning the loss of Badru.
Photojournalist Ninye Tabz paid tribute to the deceased, describing him as a friend. He also extended condolences to Next Media Services CEO Kin Kariisa, the bereaved family and the entire Next Media fraternity.
Who Is Makona?
Makona, whose real name is Brian Ssemanda, is a well-known entertainment journalist and television presenter with NBS Television and Sanyuka TV.
He has become one of the familiar faces of UnCut Sabula, earning popularity through celebrity interviews, entertainment news coverage and reporting from major showbiz events across Uganda.
His energetic presentation style has made him one of the recognizable personalities in the country’s entertainment media landscape.
Investigation Still Ongoing
As of Friday morning, Makona remained under medical care at Kisubi Hospital while investigations into the fatal crash were yet to begin publicly.
More details are expected once police and Next Media Services release official statements regarding the incident.
