The Education Ministry has suspended school trips across Uganda following the deadly Kapchorwa bus crash that claimed the lives of 21 people, including 20 pupils of King David Junior School and a school administrator.
The directive takes immediate effect as the government begins investigations into the accident, which has raised fresh concerns about the safety of learners travelling for school activities.
Education Ministry Suspends School Trips Over Safety Concerns
Acting Minister of Education and Sports Hon. John Chrysostom Muyingo issued the suspension as authorities review safety measures for school excursions.
The decision comes after a King David Junior School bus overturned in Kapchorwa District while returning to Kampala from an educational tour at Sipi Falls.
The crash has been described as one of Uganda’s deadliest school transport tragedies in recent years.

Police Begin Enforcing Suspension in Kampala
Following the ministry’s directive, police started stopping buses carrying learners to educational trips in different parts of Kampala.
Along Yusuf Lule Road near Fairway Hotel, officers intercepted three buses carrying pupils from Kawempe Muslim School who were travelling for an excursion.
The buses were stopped as part of a nationwide operation to ensure compliance with the government order.

Investigations Into Kapchorwa Crash Continue
The Ministry of Education said school trips will remain suspended until investigations into the Kapchorwa accident are completed and additional safety measures are put in place.
Authorities are examining several issues, including vehicle inspections, roadworthiness standards and supervision of school transport.
The Ministry of Works and Transport has also called an emergency meeting to review road safety measures following the tragedy.
Officials are expected to discuss ways of improving learner transport safety and preventing similar accidents in the future.
Parents and Schools Await Further Guidance
The suspension is expected to affect many schools that had planned educational tours during the current school term.
As investigations continue, parents, schools and authorities are waiting for further guidance on when school trips will resume.
