Driver Arrested Over Namulanda Crash That Killed Two Next Media Journalists

Police have arrested John Baptist Kigozi, the driver linked to the Namulanda road crash that claimed the lives of two Next Media journalists and left their colleague seriously injured.

The arrest was made on the night of Thursday, August 13, 2026, during a joint operation involving security agencies, according to Traffic Police spokesperson Michael Kananura.

Driver Arrested Nearly a Week After Fatal Crash

Kananura identified the suspect as Kigozi John Baptist and confirmed that he was arrested in connection with the fatal crash along Entebbe Road.

Police said Kigozi will be taken to court to face charges arising from the crash.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the specific charges or revealed the exact date when he will appear in court.

Two Journalists Lost Their Lives

The crash happened at around 2:00am on Friday, August 7, 2026, in Namulanda along Entebbe Road.

The victims were Badru Kasirye and Isaac Ndamagye, both journalists working with Next Media.

Their colleague, presenter Brian Ssemanda, popularly known as Makona, survived the crash but sustained serious injuries.

The collision involved a Toyota Allex carrying the journalists and a Toyota Hilux.

Police Promise Further Updates

Kananura said Kigozi will be produced before court at the appropriate time as the legal process gets underway.

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deadly collision, with further details expected as the case progresses.

The arrest marks a significant development in a crash that shocked Uganda’s media fraternity and left colleagues, friends and relatives mourning the loss of the two journalists.
