Kampala, Uganda — May 2, 2026: The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development has announced major leadership changes at the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL), marking a renewed push for accountability in Uganda’s energy sector.
Board Chairperson Lydia Ochieng-Obbo has been removed from her position, while Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Paul Mwesigwa has been placed on forced leave.
The Ministry said the decisions are part of broader efforts to strengthen oversight, improve operational efficiency, and enhance service delivery across the country’s electricity distribution network.
Government officials confirmed that interim leadership has been put in place to ensure continuity of operations during the transition.
The changes are expected to stabilize management structures and better align UEDCL’s performance with national energy goals.
