Kampala, Uganda — May 2, 2026: Uganda is mourning the death of prominent lawyer and former Buganda minister Peter Muliira, whose passing marks the loss of a respected figure in both the legal fraternity and cultural leadership.
Muliira, widely known for his legal expertise and service to the Buganda Kingdom, played a significant role in shaping legal and administrative matters during his tenure as a minister. His contributions earned him recognition as a dedicated public servant and a voice of influence within Uganda’s legal circles.
Muliira’s death was announced by the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, on Saturday through his X (formerly Twitter) account.
“The late Muliira was an intelligent person, researching and writing about issues he was passionate about,” he wrote.

Details surrounding his death remain limited at the time of publication, but tributes have already begun pouring in from colleagues, leaders, and members of the public who remember him for his professionalism, integrity, and commitment to service.
