Seven Dead as Speeding Car Rams Worshippers in Bushenyi

Bushenyi, Uganda — April 25, 2026 — Seven people have been confirmed dead and two others critically injured following a tragic road crash that occurred early Saturday morning along the Mbarara–Bushenyi Highway.

The accident happened at around 6:30 a.m. at Rushara in Kabwohe, involving a black Toyota Fielder, registration number UA 702DL, which was travelling from Bushenyi towards Mbarara.

According to police, all seven victims died on the spot, while two survivors sustained serious injuries and were rushed to ICOBI Hospital for treatment.

The Acting Greater Bushenyi Region Police spokesperson, SP Apollo Tayebwa, confirmed the incident.

“Seven people lost their lives in the accident, and two survivors were rushed to ICOBI Hospital for medical attention,” SP Tayebwa said.

Identities of the Deceased

The deceased have been identified as:

Grace Namara, 27

Harriet Asiimwe, 57

Editor Kyomugisha, 40

Ampereza Patience, 12

Rosa Kobusigye, 67

Dinanvanve Kyomugisha, 47

Authorities are yet to confirm the identity of the seventh victim.

Injured Survivors

The injured have been identified as:

Vicky Amanya, 13

Bruno Bimanyamukama, 16

Preliminary reports indicate that the victims were returning home after attending overnight prayers at St. Rose Catholic Church in areas including Rukinga, Kabingo, Kitooha, and Karushegu.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Kabwohe Health Centre III mortuary for postmortem examination.

Police have launched investigations to establish the exact cause of the crash.

The Mbarara–Bushenyi Highway remains one of the busiest routes in western Uganda, with recurring concerns over road safety.
