Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola wins the UEFA men’s coach of the year award ahead of Simon Inzaghi of Inter and Luciano Spalletti of Napoli.
UEFA (the United European Football Association) recognizes the effort of Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola as he wins the association coach of the year award ahead of the three men shortlisted.
The Champions League handed him the prestigious award. However, coming ahead of Simon Inzaghi of Inter Milan after leading his team to the Champions League final against Manchester City,
Guardiola is the first manager to win two European trebles in the men’s game, keeping him ahead of the other eight bosses who have won the trebles once.
Including Celtic boss Jock Stein, Ajax Stefan Kovacs, Sir Alex Ferguson of Manchester United, Jose Mourinho with Inter, Jupp Heynckes of Bayern Munich, Guus Hiddink with PSV, Luis Enrique of Barcelona, and Hansi Flick of Bayern Munich.
Guardiola received the prestigious award for his contribution to the city’s success last season at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco this evening.
Pep is the only manager to win the continental treble twice and the youngest boss to win the UEFA Champions League.
Also, he holds the record for the most successful consecutive league games won in La Liga, the Bundesliga, and the Premier League.
City’s director of football, Txiki Begiristain, congratulated Pep:
“Congratulations to Pep and his staff on winning this award, a deserved recognition for an incredible season.
“To win three trophies was extraordinary, and to lift the Champions League for the first time was such a special moment.
“He is so focused on delivering success and sets high standards that keep us challenging for trophies every season.
