Ollie Watkins Signs a New Long-Term Contract With Aston Villa, With The Forward Committing His Future To The VillaFollowing His England Recall
Watkins has penned down a five-year deal with Aston Villa, days after his international duty recall.
He will remain at the club until 2028. There has been ongoing discussion since spring, but it has been finalized this week.
The new contract takes Watkins towards Villa’s top pay grade alongside Tyrone Mings, Emiliano Martinez, and Moussa Diaby.
Ollie Watkins, 27, has been in impressive form this season, scoring seven goals in all competitions, including two hat-tricks.
Moving to Villa Park in 2020 from Brentford, he quickly made a name for himself, racking up to 50 goals so far and still counting.
His 15 goals for Villa last season paved the way for their entrance into European competition this season.
He hit double-digit numbers for each of his three season appearances for Villa.
Ollie Watkins Statement Following His Contract Extension
‘’I feel like this is the best place for me to play football. I’ve still got a lot to achieve here.
It’s definitely been a memorable week for me—one I’ll never forget. However, I feel like I’ve had a really good connection with the fans since I’ve come here. From day one, they’ve been really good with me, and we’ve had highs and lows, but that’s football”.
Coach Unai Emery on Watkins New Contract
“He is always very demanding to learn and improve. He is doing that here. I have been working with him more or less for one year, and today is the same as the first day, our method in the training group”.
In conclusion, Watkins took his goal tally at Villa Park to 50 last weekend, with a hat-trick in a 6-1 beating of Brighton.
