Catholics in Masaka Diocese are mourning the death of Rev. Fr. Bonaventure Kalyesubula. The respected priest died in a road accident on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
Bishop Rt. Rev. Severus Jjumba confirmed the tragic news in an official statement. He said Fr. Kalyesubula died in a motor accident near his parish. The incident shocked members of the diocesan community.
“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Rev. Fr. Bonaventure Kalyesubula, who died in a motor accident on June 17, 2026,” the bishop said.

Fr. Kalyesubula was the Chairman of the Diocesan Building Committee. He was also residing at Kitaasa Parish. Many faithful knew him for his dedication to the Church. He played a key role in several development projects within the diocese.

His death has sparked an outpouring of condolences. Priests, religious leaders, and faithful across Masaka have paid tribute to him. Many remember him as a humble servant devoted to ministry and community service.
The Diocese announced that the late priest will be buried at Bukalasa Minor Seminary Cemetery on Friday, June 19, 2026. A Holy Mass will begin at 2:00 PM before the burial.

Church leaders have asked Christians and well-wishers to pray for the late priest’s family. They also requested prayers for fellow clergy members and the entire diocesan community.
The Diocese had not released further details about the accident by the time of publication.
