Kikuube, Uganda — April 21, 2026 — The Electoral Commission of Uganda has confirmed June 10, 2026, as the polling date for the Kikuube District LC V chairperson by-election, setting in motion a series of activities to fill the vacant seat.
The position fell vacant following the death of former chairperson Peter Banura, who succumbed to injuries from a road accident earlier this month. His passing left a leadership gap in Kikuube District.
EC Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama said the electoral process will start with a stakeholders’ meeting on April 27, aimed at aligning all participants on election guidelines.

Commission will then conduct a voter register update from April 28 to April 30, followed by a public display of the register from May 8 to May 12 to allow verification and corrections.
Candidates will be nominated on May 25 and May 26, after which campaigns will officially run from May 28 to June 8.
Voting will take place on June 10, with the EC assuring voters of adequate preparations, including deployment of trained election officials and coordination with security agencies.
Banura, who had recently secured re-election, was widely recognized for his role in the district’s leadership. His death triggered the legal requirement for a by-election to fill the position within the stipulated timeframe.
The Commission has called on residents and political actors to participate peacefully and in accordance with electoral laws as Kikuube prepares to elect a new district chairperson.
