The Kampala Capital City Authority has suspended on-street parking along parts of Kampala Road and Jinja Road as part of new measures aimed at reducing traffic congestion in Kampala’s Central Business District.

According to a public notice issued on May 13, the new directive affects parking spaces stretching from the Entebbe Road junction through Kampala Road up to the Jinja Road and Yusuf Lule Road junction near Kitgum House.

KCCA said the changes are intended to improve vehicle movement, increase road safety, and create a more organized transport system within the city center.

Motorists have now been advised to use alternative parking areas, including Station Road, Dewinton Road, Siad Barre Road, and Nkrumah Road.

Drivers were also encouraged to utilize parking spaces within buildings and nearby commercial parking facilities such as Uganda House, the Uganda National Cultural Center parking area, and the multi-level parking facility on Portal Avenue.

The Authority further urged road users to cooperate with enforcement officers as the new traffic measures take effect.

Several motorists and business operators in Kampala have welcomed the move, saying roadside parking has been contributing to heavy traffic congestion, especially during peak business hours.

The latest move comes amid increasing complaints about heavy traffic congestion along Kampala’s busiest business routes, especially during peak hours.

KCCA says the parking suspension forms part of broader efforts to improve mobility and maintain a cleaner, safer, and more efficient city under its “For a Livable City” campaign.
