Kampala, May 14, 2026 — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Justice Moses Kazibwe Kawumi as the new Deputy Chief Justice of Uganda as part of changes in the country’s judiciary leadership during the new term of government.
According to the Presidential Press Unit (PPU), the President also appointed Her Worship Agnes Alum as the new Chief Registrar.
The appointments are aimed at strengthening the administration of justice and improving the efficiency of Uganda’s judicial system.

Justice Kawumi’s name has been forwarded to Parliament for approval before his appointment is formally confirmed.

Parliament is expected to consider and vet the Deputy Chief Justice nominee in the coming days.
