BUNIA, DRC — Health officials have reported positive developments in the Ebola outbreak. Several patients have recovered and been discharged from treatment centres in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The World Health Organization (WHO) said four nurses have recovered from Ebola caused by the Bundibugyo strain. The patients were discharged from a hospital in Bunia.
Health experts say more patients are expected to recover as efforts to identify infections early and provide timely medical care continue to improve.
Despite the positive developments, authorities remain concerned about the spread of the outbreak. Official figures show that confirmed Ebola cases have risen to 282, while 42 deaths have been recorded since the outbreak began.

Earlier this month, the WHO declared the outbreak in the DRC and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. The agency called for stronger international support and coordination.
During a visit to Bunia on Saturday, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said there is no approved vaccine for the Bundibugyo strain. However, he noted that patients can survive Ebola with proper medical care.

Meanwhile, health authorities are investigating suspected Ebola cases outside Africa.
In Brazil, two patients were initially suspected of having Ebola after travelling from affected regions. However, tests later confirmed they had other illnesses.
In Italy, health officials activated emergency protocols after a traveller returned from the DRC with Ebola-like symptoms.
The latest recoveries offer hope in the fight against Ebola. However, health officials still face major challenges in containing the outbreak.
Health agencies across Africa and beyond remain on high alert as surveillance and response measures are intensified.
