KAMPALA — The Green Daddy Foundation has launched Tree Plus, a grassroots environmental campaign encouraging children and community members to plant or adopt trees. The initiative aims to restore Kampala’s green spaces and promote sustainable living.
The campaign targets nursery and primary school children. It introduces them to environmental conservation through hands-on activities that encourage lifelong responsibility for nature. Rather than focusing on one-day tree-planting events, Tree Plus requires participants to care for the trees they plant so they can grow and thrive.
Green Daddy, whose real name is Kikabi Vincent Kibalama, said the campaign is based on the belief that meaningful environmental change starts with individual action.
“Every tree matters. If every child grows up knowing they are responsible for at least one tree, we will build communities that value and protect the environment for generations to come,” he said.
The initiative is modelled on conservation activities at Mother Sollace Day Care and Nursery School in Nateete. Environmental education has been incorporated into the children’s daily learning there. The foundation says the programme will now extend to more schools and neighbourhoods. Pupils, teachers and parents will be encouraged to take part in tree planting and environmental care.

Besides planting trees, the campaign will promote proper waste disposal, recycling and community clean-up exercises. It will also raise awareness about protecting wetlands and reducing pollution. Participants will learn how increased tree cover can improve air quality, reduce heat and minimise flooding in urban areas.
The Green Daddy Foundation says it will monitor the campaign by tracking the survival and growth of planted trees. It will also work with schools and communities to strengthen environmental awareness.
The organisation has called on government institutions, civil society organisations, private companies and development partners to support the expansion of the Tree Plus campaign. It says widespread public participation is essential to building greener, healthier and more climate-resilient communities across Uganda.
