General Moses Ali Dies at 86, Uganda Mourns Veteran Statesman

KAMPALA, Uganda — Uganda is mourning after General Moses Ali dies at Nakasero Hospital on Saturday, July 18, 2026. The veteran politician and former First Deputy Prime Minister passed away after decades of service to the country..

Former minister Captain Mike Mukula announced the news. He said the retired general died at 4:25 p.m.

In his tribute, Mukula described General Moses Ali as a patriot, freedom fighter and respected statesman. He said the late leader’s decades of public service left a lasting mark on Uganda’s history.

“He devoted his life to the service of Uganda. His contribution to peace, national unity, stability and reconstruction will forever remain engraved in the history of our nation,” Mukula said.

Mukula also praised the late leader as a courageous soldier and dedicated public servant. He said General Moses Ali’s leadership inspired generations of Ugandans.

General Moses Ali held several senior government positions during his long political career. He was widely respected for promoting peace, national unity and the development of the West Nile sub-region.

Mukula extended his condolences to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the government and the family of General Moses Ali. He also sympathized with the people of Adjumani District, the West Nile region and all Ugandans mourning the loss.

Tributes continue to pour in from leaders and citizens across Uganda. Many have praised General Moses Ali for his commitment to public service, leadership and national unity.

The government and the family are expected to announce burial arrangements in the coming days.
