Barcelona have officially announced the signing of England forward Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United in a deal worth around €80 million on a five-year contract.
Sources told Uncovered Ug that the transfer includes an initial fee of €70 million ($81.7m), with add-ons potentially raising the total package to over €80 million ($93.3m).
The 23-year-old was also reportedly targeted by Bayern Munich and Liverpool, but Barcelona moved ahead to secure his signature.
Earlier this week, Barça and Newcastle had reached an agreement on the transfer fee, with Gordon travelling to Catalonia on Thursday to complete his medical.
He will now link up with his new teammates before joining the England national team, having been named in Thomas Tuchel’s 26-man squad for upcoming international duties.
Gordon joins Barça as part of an attacking rebuild requested by coach Hansi Flick this summer.
He mainly operates on the left wing but can also play centrally, strengthening a front line that already includes Lamine Yamal and Raphinha.
Barcelona are also targeting a new striker following Robert Lewandowski’s expected departure when his contract expires in June.
Uncovered UG reports suggest the club may now turn attention to Atlético Madrid’s Julián Álvarez, valued at over €100 million.
The move also raises questions about Marcus Rashford’s future. Barcelona reportedly have an option to sign him permanently for €30 million after his loan spell, during which he scored 14 goals and provided 14 assists.
However, the club may negotiate a lower fee or another loan deal with Manchester United.
Gordon came through Everton’s academy after earlier spells with Liverpool’s youth setup and a loan at Preston North End.
He later joined Newcastle in a deal worth up to €50 million in 2023, scoring 39 goals in 152 appearances across all competitions.
