Manchester City have completed the signing of Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea, bringing one of the biggest transfer stories of the summer to an end.
Fernandez has signed a five-year contract with Manchester City that runs until 2031, with the Premier League champions completing the deal on the final day of the transfer window.
The transfer is reportedly worth around £125 million (€145 million), making Fernandez one of the most expensive players ever signed by a Premier League club. The fee also represents a new Manchester City transfer record.

Fernandez leaves Chelsea after three years
The 25-year-old midfielder leaves Stamford Bridge after making 170 appearances and scoring 31 goals for Chelsea.
During his time in west London, Fernandez helped the club win the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup. He also became an important figure in Chelsea’s midfield after arriving from Benfica in January 2023.
His departure brings an end to a spell that included some memorable moments but also growing uncertainty over his future during the final stages of the transfer window.
Reunion with Enzo Maresca
Fernandez will now reunite with Enzo Maresca, the manager who previously worked with him at Chelsea.
Maresca knows the Argentine midfielder well, and his arrival gives Manchester City another experienced option in midfield as the club looks to strengthen its squad.
Fernandez also arrives with considerable international experience. He was part of Argentina’s 2022 World Cup-winning team and helped his country reach the 2026 World Cup final.
A major move for Manchester City
The signing continues Manchester City’s busy summer rebuild.
Fernandez becomes the latest major addition to a squad that has already seen significant investment, with City looking to strengthen their midfield and compete for major honours again.
For Fernandez, the move represents another major step in his career. He now faces the challenge of adapting to a new club while competing for trophies in a Manchester City side with high expectations.
His first season at the Etihad Stadium will be closely watched, particularly given the size of the transfer fee and his previous success in the Premier League.
