News reaching our platform says that the Ministry of Health has confirmed the imminent arrival of 10,000 doses of the Mpox vaccine a donation from the US government through the Africa CDC.
Health minister Jane Ruth Aceng revealed during a press briefing that mass vaccination campaigns will commence next month, focusing on regions experiencing active transmission.
She emphasised the importance of vaccination in curbing the spread of the disease. Additionally, the vaccines are expected in Uganda next week, as the country grapples with a noticeable increase in Mpox cases.
Dr. Mary Boyd, speaking at the Uganda Media Centre, assured the public of the vaccine’s safety, citing endorsements from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Dr. Boyd told our news reporters that “This partnership underscores the global effort to combat Mpox and strengthen Uganda’s healthcare system.”
She also highlighted additional US support, including 10,000 testing kits to enhance Mpox detection and treatment capacity in the country.
In conclusion, the Ministry of Health urges the public to remain vigilant and adhere to preventive measures as preparations for the vaccination rollout continue.
