KAMPALA, August 28, 2026 — The Tooro Kingdom has announced the death of His Majesty Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who passed away at approximately 10:00 p.m. on Thursday.

The announcement was made by the Omuhikirwa (Prime Minister) of Tooro Kingdom, Calvin Armstrong Romwiire Akiiki, who described the death of the king as a profound loss to the royal family, the people of Tooro, and Uganda.

In his statement, the prime minister called on the people of Tooro to remain united, calm, and prayerful as the kingdom mourns the death of its monarch.

Rwomiire also assured the people of Tooro that the continuity of the kingdom’s royal institution remains guaranteed.

He revealed that the late Omukama leaves behind a prince who will succeed him, although the identity of the heir will be officially announced at an appropriate time in line with the traditions and customs of the Tooro Kingdom.

“This is an immeasurable loss to the Royal Family, the people of Tooro, and the nation of Uganda,” the prime minister said.

He concluded the announcement with the traditional words of mourning: “Omukama Atulize. Enkuba Etutire.”

The Kingdom is expected to issue another official communication with details about the funeral arrangements, mourning programme, and other matters concerning the royal family.

A King Who Took the Throne as a Child

Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV became Omukama of Tooro in 1995 following the death of his father, Omukama Patrick Matthew Kaboyo Olimi III.

He ascended the throne as a child and went on to become one of Uganda’s most recognised traditional leaders, serving as the cultural head of the people of Tooro for more than three decades.

His death now brings an end to a long reign that began in childhood and spanned significant changes in the kingdom and Uganda as a whole.

As Tooro enters a period of mourning, attention will turn to the royal family’s next steps and the formal process through which the new Omukama will be identified.

Uncovered UG extends its condolences to the Royal Family, the people of Tooro, and all those mourning the loss of His Majesty Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.

May His Majesty rest in eternal peace.
