KAMPALA, August 27, 2026 — Five people have been arrested and 12 motorcycles impounded as police intensify investigations into a suspected motorcycle theft network operating in parts of Kampala.
The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation carried out on August 25 at about 5pm in Ndeeba, Katwe Division.
The operation was launched after a motorcycle, registration number UMA 330NR, was reported stolen at Nabweru Police Station.
Police said their investigations and intelligence gathering led officers to Busabala, where they arrested two men suspected of being behind the theft.

The suspects were identified as Mugisha Ivan, 28, and Kabanda David, 25.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Kawala Racheal, the suspects allegedly stole the motorcycle and concealed it while waiting for its tracking device to be removed.
After their arrest, police said the suspects led investigators to Ndeeba, where they pointed out people and places allegedly involved in receiving and disposing of stolen motorcycles.
A total of 12 suspected stolen motorcycles were impounded during the operation, while three more suspects were arrested.
Police said preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects target relatively new motorcycles before transporting them to Ndeeba.
The motorcycles are allegedly stripped of their tracking devices and later sold for about Shs1.7 million each.
Some are reportedly dismantled and sold as spare parts, while others are allegedly altered to make them look old before being resold.
Police are also investigating possible links between the suspects and other motorcycle theft cases reported at Old Kampala, Nateete, Jinja Road and Nabweru police stations.
SP Kawala said investigations are continuing to establish the wider network and track down other suspects involved in stealing, hiding, dismantling and selling the motorcycles.
The recovered motorcycles remain in police custody pending further investigations and identification of their owners.
Police have urged motorcycle owners and members of the public to remain alert and promptly report theft or suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
