Four senior Kotido Municipal Council officials have been arrested over the alleged misappropriation of UGX 1 billion meant for road rehabilitation and maintenance, with State House Anti-Corruption Unit leading investigations
According to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the district officials include the Town Clerk Okaja Emmanuel, Senior Civil Engineer Okidi Gasper, Senior Internal Auditor Akello Deo Nyanga, and Assistant Inventory Officer Lokure John Bosco.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the officials conspired and embezzled over UGX 200 million meant for construction materials for various roads in Kotido Municipality in financial year 2024/2025.
The materials include 1,735. 7 trips of gravel, 250 bags of cement, 25 trips of hardcore, and 10 trips of sand.
In addition, the Town Clerk and the Senior Civil Engineer are accused of neglecting their official duties by failing to supervise, monitor, and ensure compliance with approved guidelines during the construction and maintenance of several roads.
The affected roads include Miresiae–Napawu Road, Morungor–Kotyanga Road, Nangayum–Kawlapei Road, Chairman’s Road, Business Road, and Romrom–Nakutakuwam Road.
Their arrest will improve on the structures of the Roads to avoid accidents rather than misusing funds.
In conclusion, the suspects are expected to be arraigned before court soon and charged accordingly.
