The Kamuli school coaster accident has left several students injured after a coaster carrying learners from Nalango Secondary School collided with a sugarcane truck at Busota along the Jinja–Kamuli Road..
The students, from Nalango Secondary School, were returning from a study tour in Jinja when the accident occurred. Rescue teams, health workers and residents responded to the scene before the injured were taken to Kamuli Main Hospital and Busota Health Centre III for treatment.
Kamuli School Coaster Accident Investigation Continues
By Saturday, authorities had not released the exact number of injured students or established the cause of the crash. Police said investigations were underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.

The accident comes just a day after a fatal school bus crash in Kapchorwa District claimed the lives of more than 20 people, prompting the government to suspend all school study tours and educational excursions across the country pending a review of transport safety measures.

The Kamuli crash has renewed concerns over the safety of students travelling on Uganda’s highways, particularly on routes heavily used by commercial trucks. The Jinja–Kamuli Road is one of the busiest transport corridors in the Busoga sub-region, carrying large numbers of sugarcane trucks alongside passenger vehicles.
Road safety advocates have for years warned that the combination of heavy commercial traffic, speeding, poor overtaking practices and night travel increases the risk of serious accidents along the highway.
In recent weeks, several school buses have been involved in crashes across the country, including the Mukono train collision and the Bugweri trailer crash, leaving multiple learners injured and raising fresh questions about compliance with school transport regulations.
Authorities are expected to examine whether the vehicle involved in the Kamuli accident met safety requirements and whether all necessary procedures for transporting students on educational trips had been followed.
Police urged motorists to exercise caution, especially on highways shared with heavy commercial vehicles, as investigations into the latest crash continue.
