Kampala Metropolitan — May 1, 2026 — Uganda Police have recovered an illegal firearm and arrested a 26-year-old suspect following a targeted security operation in Wakiso District, according to police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire.
In a statement, Owoyesigyire said officers attached to Nsangi and Kyengera police divisions acted on a tip-off from the public, leading to the arrest of Kimbugwe Vincent, also known as Kasumali.
“Police in Nsangi and Kyengera have successfully recovered an illegal firearm and apprehended a 26-year-old suspect following a targeted operation,” he said.
Authorities reported that a search conducted at the suspect’s residence in Massanda Cell, Kyengera Town Council, resulted in the recovery of an AK-47 rifle.
Police noted that the weapon appeared rusted and had an obscured serial number, raising further questions about its origin and prior use. The firearm has since been submitted to a forensic laboratory for detailed examination.
