H. E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has fulfilled his pledge to strengthen local governance with the handover of 176 brand-new vehicles worth UGX 35.2 billion to local government leaders across the country.
However, these vehicles were officially handed over at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds to 135 District Chairpersons, 10 City Mayors, and 31 Municipal Leaders, in a move aimed at improving supervision and coordination of key government programs.
Speaking on behalf of the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, the Minister of Local Government, Hon. Raphael Magyezi, commended the leaders for their continued dedication to public service and called for prudent use of the vehicles.

Magyezi told Uncovered Ug news reporters that “These vehicles are not for prestige or personal errands. They are working tools meant to help you monitor government programs and ensure every shilling spent benefits the people.”
“The President has done his part; it is now your duty to deliver. Let these vehicles take you to every corner of your districts to check on roads, schools, and health centers,” he added.
Furthermore, Magyezi also directed that vehicles previously used by the District Chairpersons and Mayors be handed over to the respective Speakers of Districts, Cities, and Municipalities to facilitate council operations and strengthen legislative oversight at the local level.
Permanent Secretary Mr. Ben Kumumanya called upon the leaders to treat the vehicles as a responsibility rather than a privilege.
“We expect to see more field supervision and fewer complaints about absentee leaders. These vehicles should be visible in parishes and sub-counties where government programs are being implemented,” he emphasized.
In conclusion, he urged leaders to prioritize transparency, efficiency, and accountability, saying misuse of government property will not be tolerated.
