News reaching our desk confirms that Muhammad Luswa Luwemba, former aide to the late Muhammad Sseggirinya, has been nominated to contest in the upcoming by-election scheduled for March 2025.
However, he arrived at the Electoral Commission offices on a boda-boda and was officially verified, and he is to use a radio as his campaign symbol.
Luswa failed to gain the National Unity Platform ticket for the by-election, coming third in a race won by Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola.
Luswa and his supporters arrived at the Electoral Commission office riding boda bodas
Speaking to Uncovered Ug news reporters, Luswa expressed frustration over the delays, warning against any irregularities in the electoral process.
“The people of Kawempe North deserve a free and fair election, and we will not accept any intimidation or high-handedness in this process.” he added
Although the opposition party had tied down each of the 10 aspirants for its flagbearer ticket to loyalty such that none would contest as an independent against the party, Luswa and Moses Nsereko have since cut ranks with the memorandum of understanding.
“If the harassment and irregularities we witnessed today continue, we shall not hesitate to challenge the legitimacy of this election,” he added.
In conclusion, With the seat left vacant following Sseggirinya’s tenure, a competitive race is expected, so the Electoral Commission is still scrutinising and verifying other candidates as the nomination process continues.
