Busia, Uganda, May 8, 2026:  Shock in Busia District after a man identified as Godfrey Were, 40, was shot and arrested following an attempted attack on Busia Central Police Station.

Security and eyewitness accounts indicate that the incident unfolded when Were allegedly approached the police station in a highly aggressive state, making unusual religious declarations while attempting to confront officers on duty.

Residents say the situation quickly turned chaotic as the suspect reportedly claimed he was a divine being and could not be stopped, causing panic around the station.

Police Respond to Sudden Attack

According to preliminary security reports, officers on duty attempted to restrain Were after he ignored repeated warnings to step back.

Police say the confrontation escalated rapidly, forcing officers to use force to neutralize what they described as an immediate threat.

The suspect was shot and subdued before being arrested. He was later taken into custody as investigations began.

People who were near the scene described confusion and fear as the incident unfolded.
