Dr. Michael Atingi-Ego has been appointed as the new Governor of the Bank of Uganda, succeeding the late Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile, who passed away in January 2022.
However, he has been serving as the Deputy Governor since March 2020 and has been acting as the Governor since Mutebile’s demise.
Dr. Atingi-Ego brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously held positions such as Executive Director of the Macroeconomics and Financial Management Institute of Eastern and Southern Africa and Deputy Director of the African Department at the International Monetary Fund.
