Donald Trump imposes tariffs on Mexico, Canada And China

The elected US President Donald Trump has hit Canada and Mexico with 25% tariffs on imported goods and a 10% tax on China, the White House has confirmed.

However, the energy imports from Canada will have a lower 10% tariff, a statement says. The White House says the tariffs are being implemented in order to tackle the fentanyl crisis in the US.

Furthermore, the tariffs on Canadian and Chinese goods will come into effect from midnight on Tuesday, according to executive orders issued by President Donald Trump. It is unclear whether that deadline applies to Mexico too.

China’s embassy in Washington has said there would be “no winner in a trade war or tariff war.
