The most experience referee in Europe, Daniele Orsato has been selected by FIFA to handle the opening game between the host of Qatar and Ecuador that will take place on Sunday 20th November.
“In 2022, he was a video assistant referee at the last World Cup, he was the one that blew the Champions league game final between Bayern Munich and Paris Saint Germain where Bayern won 1-0. He worked on three games in the European Championship last year where his home country Italy won the tournament “.
Its on record that Italian referees have the best reputations in the modern era of World Cups, that are played nowadays, he has managed many finals in many competitions around the world.
In 2016, FIFA imposed a rule that no referee above 45 years of age will handle international games. On Wednesday,23rd November, Daniele Orsato will turn 47years of age. Due to his experience in handling games he was called by the FIFA board to come and work

Orsato became a FIFA referee in 2010. He has served as a referee in qualifying matches for the 2014 World Cup and Euro 2012.
On 1 July 2018, Orsato was appointed a VAR referee for the 2018 FIFA World Cup match between Croatia and Denmark.
On 12 February 2019, Orsato refereed the round of 16 first leg matches between Manchester United and PSG in the UEFA Champions League. He gave out 10 yellow cards (6 for Manchester United and 4 for PSG) and sent off Paul Pogba in the 89th minute.
Orsato refereed the 2020 UEFA Champions League Final between Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.
He also refereed the second leg of the 2021 UEFA Champions League semi-final between Chelsea and Real Madrid. Further more In 2020, Orsato was awarded by IFFHS as the best referee of that calendar year.
