Busia meat theft suspects are among 11 people arrested during an operation targeting butcheries suspected of selling meat from stolen animals in Busia Municipality, according to police. The Uganda Police Force continues to investigate cases involving suspected livestock theft and related offences.
The operation was conducted on Monday, September 21, in Arubaina, Sofia, Nangwe, Solo B and Busia Main Market in Busia Municipality.
The crackdown was led by the Busia Municipality Veterinary Officer with support from security agencies, including the Flying Squad.
It followed investigations involving sniffer dogs that had earlier been deployed to identify butcheries suspected of receiving meat from stolen livestock.

Police said some of the suspected operators had previously deserted their businesses after noticing the dogs, prompting authorities to plan a coordinated operation.
During the latest raid, officers recovered unstamped goat and cattle meat, together with turkey and chicken products.
Weighing scales, stones, pangas and other items considered relevant to the investigation were also seized.
The 11 suspects were taken to Busia Central Police Station and charged with stealing cattle as investigations into the suspected livestock theft network continued.
