ENTEBBE, UGANDA — Kenyan Senior Counsel and former Justice Minister Martha Karua has revealed that she was denied entry into Uganda after arriving at Entebbe International Airport on Monday.
In a statement shared on social media, Karua said immigration officials instructed her to return to Kenya without giving any explanation for the decision.
According to Karua, she travelled to Uganda alongside Senior Counsel Charles Kanjama, the President of the Law Society of Kenya. While Kanjama was reportedly allowed to enter the country, she was denied entry and directed to leave immediately.

Why Martha Karua Was Denied Entry Into Uganda?
The Kenyan lawyer did not indicate whether Ugandan authorities provided any official documentation or reasons for the decision.
Karua has been actively involved in the legal defence of opposition politician Dr. Kizza Besigye and has frequently spoken out on issues relating to due process, constitutional rights, and the handling of court proceedings involving opposition figures.

Her reported denial of entry comes at a time when legal proceedings involving Besigye continue to attract attention from regional legal practitioners and human rights advocates.
The development is likely to raise questions among observers, especially given Karua’s role in Besigye’s legal team and her previous engagements in Uganda-related legal matters.
As of publication, Ugandan immigration authorities had not publicly commented on the matter.
