A 24-year-old man named Alex Byamukama is alleged to have engaged in sexual acts with two minor girls aged 10 and 11, both pupils of Bihomborwa Primary School.
Byamukama resides in Bihomborwa village, which is part of Kihihi town council in Kanungu district.
Elly Maate, the spokesperson for the Kigezi region, told the press that on October 15, 2023, at approximately 1 p.m., the two victims, along with four other girls, left home to collect firewood in the bush.
However, upon their return, they were confronted by the suspect, who accused them of damaging or trampling on Jane’s beans.
Additionally, Maate revealed that the suspect singled out the two younger victims from the group and instructed them to accompany him as a form of punishment to collect grass. In the bush, he allegedly tied up the victims and engaged in sexual acts with each of them.
Maate added that after the incident, the victims managed to escape and reported the matter to their parents. Jacenta Nyiransaba reported the case to the police, leading to the identification and subsequent arrest of the suspect.
In conclusion, Maate also informed the press that statements were taken from the victims and inquiries are ongoing. The case has been officially registered at Kanungu Central Police Station under reference number CRB 333/2023.
