Former President Jimmy Carter Jr.’s state funeral is scheduled for 9 January at the Washington National Cathedral, as the nation comes together to mourn the passing of the longest-lived US president.
Sadly, Walter Mondale, Carter’s vice president, passed away in 2021 before he could deliver the eulogy. Mondale’s son will now step in to read the heartfelt tribute at the funeral, as reported by the New York Times.
According to the Carter Centre, more additional ceremonies in Atlanta, Georgia, and Carter’s burial in Plains, Georgia, are also planned.

Furthermore, President Joe Biden has decreed that US flags on federal properties be flown at half-staff for 30 days.
This public viewing will allow individuals from all walks of life, including lawmakers, dignitaries, and ordinary Americans, to pay their respects. Carter will be laid to rest on his family’s land beside his wife, Rosalynn, who passed away in November 2023.
In conclusion, this period will encompass the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump. The Carter family has graciously accepted an invitation from the US Congress for Carter to lie in state in the rotunda of the US Capitol building.
