A heavy downpour with a storm that lasted for about two hours on Sunday, June 16, 2024, in three subcounties in Sironko district has displaced over 250 people and destroyed their properties.
According to the news reaching our desk, the most affected subcounty is Mafudu, which is then part of Sironko Town Council and Buwalasi.
Patrick Munyalo, the LC3 chairperson of the Mafudu Sub County, said the worst-affected parishes are Bugwanyi and Budege.
He adds that in Bugwanyi parish alone, three houses have been completely demolished, while 17 were de-roofed.
In Budege parish, seven houses were also totally destroyed, leaving people with nowhere to sleep.
Munyalo also says all crops like bananas, maize, cassava, beans, and trees, among others, were also totally destroyed.
Samuel Wetaka and Sarah Mudenga from Buwalasi Sub County say that they are lacking a place to stay with their family members, urging the government to intervene.
In conclusion, they are to expect serious hunger in the future after their crops all got destroyed, urging the district through its disaster management team to support them.
