Due to the rampant poverty and unemployment rate in the country, Workers’ MP Hon. Abdulhu Byakatonda has been charged with fraud and obtaining money by false pretense related to a $220,000 fraud involving property sales.
According to the sheet presented, Byakatonda on 31st July 2019, who claimed to be agents/workers of the Departed Asians Property Custodian Board, conspired with others to receive money for the purchase of expropriated properties from businessmen Asuman Nkambwe and Nambooze Jane.
It is remembered that Byakatonda was arrested yesterday after his nomination and brought under tight security before Grade One Magistrate Jalia Basajjabalaba at Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court, where the charges were read to him.

The prosecution alleges that while serving as Chairperson of the Divestiture Committee of the Departed Asians Property Custodian Board, Byakatonda fraudulently obtained $220,000 from businessman Asuman Nkambwe in July 2019.
He reportedly claimed the money was a commitment fee for purchasing prime properties on Plot 23 Martin Road and Plot 34 Rashid Road in Kampala.
