President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who is also the Commander in Chief (CiC) of the armed forces, has today seen off five UPDF generals who have retired from active service.
President Museveni applauded the five generals, Fred Tolit, Eugene Ssebugwawo, Emmanuel Rwashande, Jesse Kamunwanire, and Max Gumisiriza, at a retirement ceremony held today, April 27, 2024, at State House Entebbe.
The President said that the officers can now retire in a time of peace, free from the internal conflicts that plagued armies before the NRA.
President Museveni told uncovered news reporters that “their retirement signifies a transition to peace, with the eradication of the culture of division (politics of identity) due to the stability provided by the NRM’s strong ideology.”.
Furthermore, Maj Gen Tolit is the former Defense Adviser of Uganda in South Africa; Brig Gen Ssebugwawo was Coordinator of Disaster Preparedness at the Office of the Prime Minister; Brig Gen Rwashande was UPDF Chief of Civil-Military Cooperation; Brig Gen Kamunanwire was serving under Uganda Police as HRM Director; and Brig Gumisiriza formally served as Commandant of Peace Support Centre Singo.
In conclusion, he extended his gratitude to the retiring generals for their dedicated service and commitment and wished them good luck as they returned to their communities.
