The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) will, starting 5 August 2025, embark on a nationwide recruitment exercise aimed at enlisting 11,500 new personnel into the Force.
In Western Uganda, a total of 1,167 recruits will be selected from 19 districts within Kigezi and Greater Ankole under Team Nine. The shortlist of successful applicants is available at www.updf.go.ug/careers or can be accessed at district and municipal headquarters.
The exercise, according to Major Kiconco Tabaro, UPDF 2 Infantry Division Public Information Officer, will be conducted through five designated recruitment centers, each handling specific districts, on days as follows:

Tabaro noted that at Recruitment Center 1, on 5 August 2025, at Kabale District Headquarters, candidates from Kabale (62), Rukiga (29), and Rubanda (53) will be processed. Kisoro District will follow on 6 August with 94 candidates expected.
Recruitment Centre 2: Ntungamo District Headquarters, and this will handle recruitment exclusively for Ntungamo District, which is expected to provide 120 recruits.
Recruitment Centre 3: Rukungiri District Headquarters. Candidates from Rukungiri (67) and Kanungu (82) will be processed at this center.
Recruitment Centre 4: Bushenyi District Headquarters: On 10 August 2025, candidates from Bushenyi (61) and Mitooma (49) will be handled. On 11 August, the exercise will continue with candidates from Buhweju (36), Rubirizi (36), and Sheema (55).
On 12 August, recruitment will be held for Mbarara City (57), Mbarara District (38), and Rwampara (35). Ibanda District (67) will follow on 13 August. On 14 August, candidates from Kiruhura (45) and Kazo (44) will be considered. The exercise will conclude on 15 August with recruitment from Isingiro District, which is expected to provide 137 recruits.
Only shortlisted candidates will be allowed at recruitment centers and must present original academic documents.
In conclusion, successful candidates after recruitment are expected to report to Kaweweta Basic Military Training School in Ngoma, Nakaseke District, within three days after recruitment.
